If you’re like me – frequently on the move -, but don’t wanna skip on that great coffee that you’ve purchased at your favorite roastery just a couple days ago, some decent coffee gear might be your usual travel companion.

It definitely is for me. Because you never know, what to expect at your travel destination. The place you might end up staying at may not even have coffee gear to make coffee with in the morning whatsoever. For a coffee geek like me this would be a No-go.

Morning coffee routines on the go

During my busier digital nomad periods I was never traveling without a scale, a small coffee filter (usually a Kalita or AeroPress) and a hand grinder. The latter oftentimes raised questions and had me undergo additional security checks before boarding a plane. Not sure what they thought it was.

Whenever and wherever I was staying, my morning coffee routine would be the same. I usually am staying at Airbnb’s, for staying at and spending time with locals is my preferred way of staying in foreign countries. Hotels and hostels just aren’t my thing.

So, every morning, the Airbnb kitchen would turn into my personal coffee corner for the time being, the scent of freshly brewed coffee making their way into every corner of the house. This usually was also great stuff for conversations with my hosts and other guests, oftentimes receiving local cafe hopping tips.

The coffee beans I’d purchase at a local roastery in the town or city I was visiting at the time. Unless I just got to a new place, then I’d bring the beans with me, too. This coffee ritual was part of my travels for years. No matter if I was traveling through East- and South East Asia or in the Americas.

New coffee habits

Recently however I find myself doing shorter trips. An extended weekend, spending some days off at quieter countryside places – still Airbnb, though -, sometimes including a wellness upgrade.

Is that part of getting older? It probably is for me. The convenience, the comfort, the quietude and solitude. Things I more and more appreciate.

So, for a recent trip to an Airbnb nearby, which, honestly, felt more like a glamping experience to me, I decided to bring a new device. Nestled in the country side surrounded by meadows and lush green trees, the Airbnb had a tiny house, a hot tub and a sauna.

What about your travel habits?

Maybe this summer you’re spending time at a glamping site, booking your accomodation in a luxurious yurt, wood stove, outdoor kitchen and all. A place like this just screams for an outdoor coffee ritual in the mornings, too. Just saying…

So for my stay at the Airbnb, I unplugged the T38 Plus from my home kitchen set-up, packed it up together with my scale, glass carafe, ceramic filter and some decent coffee beans purchased at my favorite specialty coffee roastery and took off into my glamping experience…

It was so peaceful, sitting by the gigantic window, observing the goats (yes, my Airbnb hosts have goats and chickens) nibbling on the long grass growing outside. Contemplating on all sorts of things that crossed my mind that morning.
